That, and reasonable limits on moderation (e.g., WordPress defaults--anything with more than one link goes into moderation, for example), might work. They've worked for me, pretty well so far. Note: WP's "first comment must be approved" option doesn't always seem to work, at least hasn't on my weblog. Otherwise, it's a particularly good if slightly time-consuming option.
